Western Holster & Belt Rig- Early 20th Century Catalog Stock. The holster is a simple pattern most likely sold through catalog sales at the turn of the century. The strap and buckle wraps around the body, and slides through an opening on the back panel that forms the belt loop. The strap is decorated with brass studs, and a small iron buckle. On the upper body his double ring design with a star at the center with another brass stud at its center. The bottom of the holster has no plug- never did, but instead is left open, rounded, and two holes are made for attaching leg tie-down straps. There is a catalog number stamped on the back. The back seam of the holster near the trigger guard area is open to just above the strap.
The belt has cartridge loops for what appears to be for a .36 caliber revolver. The nickel plated rectangular buckle has no marking. (3 inches long). The edges are embossed with a simple design with its catalog or model no “980,”and “44” for waist size.
Both holster and belt go together by age, wear, and style. Marks on back indicate a 7 1/2 inch barrel.
